Mainroad East Kootenay Contracting is beginning paving operations across the region, including several numbered highway routes, as well as select residential and arterial roads.
“The areas included in the paving program have been selected following our own safety inspections and consultation with MoTI (Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure),” said Mainroad.
“Some locations will be paved with an ‘overlay,’ whereas other locations will be resurfaced by ‘grind and pave’ or replacement patch,” added Mainroad. “Both operations are a permanent solution to failing pavement.”
Mainroad East Kootenay will be tackling the following projects as part of the 2019 Summer Pavement Improvement Program:
Arterial Streets
- Northwest Cranbrook
- King Street
- Wycliffe Park Rd
- Passing lane south of Wycliffe Bridge
- Mission Road
- From Hwy 95A, past the St. Eugene Golf Resort & Casino
Numbered Highways
- Moyie
- Hwy 3, various sections between Moyie-Yahk
- Kimberley
- Hwy 95A, near Porteous Rd (west of Wycliffe Flats)
- Elko
- Hwy 93 at the junction with Hwy 3, and Hwy 3 westbound from Elko townsite
Work is slated to begin this week on the arterial streets before paving the highway routes.
“During this time, we hope to keep disturbance to local businesses and residents to a minimum. Access to all business will remain open, although some detours to your normal route may be necessary to ensure worker safety.”
Traffic will continue to flow at each paving site but as Single Alternating Traffic. Mainroad said motorist should expect delays and potentially plan alternate routes as work will take place between 7:00 am and 6:00 pm daily Monday to Friday, although some work could be conducted on the weekends.
“Please remember your responsibility as a driver to obey traffic control persons, and to watch for work zones and obey orange construction signage,” reminded Mainroad. “Be patient; ‘slow down and move over’ for emergency or maintenance vehicles. These laws are in place to help ensure the safety of your passengers as well as our crews.”
