As the weather gets nicer, the City of Fernie is reminding residents that permits are required for backyard fire pits.
The permits allow residents to have a backyard campfire and burn clean, dry, untreated firewood for personal enjoyment.
It’s illegal to light, ignite or start any outside fire within the City of Fernie Municipal Boundary without a permit.
Without a permit you could face a $1,000 fine.

New permits are $30, and there is no fee for a renewal without any changes.
