Two surge tanks at the Western Financial Place pool will be repaired during the next annual maintenance closure.

City officials say when the pool is busy the volume of swimmers displaces an equal volume of water which is captured by the surge tanks and recirculated into the pools when needed.

During last year’s annual pool shutdown, staff noticed deterioration on the concrete, pipes and pipe supports inside the pool surge tanks.

The city hired an engineer to assess the tanks back in February and they recommended that repairs be made during the next shut down.

The initial estimate for repairs is $100,000 with an additional $10,000 for drawing and design work.

City officials say as the move forward with the asset management program more repairs will likely arise.
