Cranbrook Chamber launching non-profit board training program

The Cranbrook Chamber of Commerce is launching a new training program aimed at teaching non-profit boards how to be more effective in their roles.

“Volunteerism is the heartbeat of the community, and at the Chamber, we have about 40 registered non-profit societies that are members,” said Stacey Brensrud, Chamber of Commerce Executive Director.

“The work they do in the community is varied, but a lot of it is very important.”

Brensrud says the Chamber is launching this new training opportunity to help non-profit societies be at their best.

“It’s important to make sure the volunteers who are giving their time, energy and expertise are supported,” said Brensrud.

“We see this as a way that non-profits can have a couple of seats for a couple of board members to make sure their boards remain well educated and supported so they can do their best for the community.”

The training will be a single day, but it will cover a broad range of subjects.

“The focus of the series will be to give attendees a good understanding of a governance position as a director on a governance board,” said Brensrud.

“We’re going to be talking about the eight responsibilities of a board, and really talk about what makes good governance work and good operational work.”

The training session will continue on an annual basis, with the first opportunity set for Tuesday, April 15.
