A snowmobiler was killed in an avalanche near Radium Hot Springs on Sunday, February 23.
Columbia Valley RCMP received an SOS signal from a Garmin In-Reach device notifying the detachment of a person who was buried in an avalanche.
A search and rescue crew was dispatched to the Forester snowmobile riding area where police believe human activity caused an avalanche.
RCMP officials say the victim was taken to the Invermere Hospital via helicopter.
Despite life-saving measures, the snowmobiler was pronounced deceased.
“The RCMP would like to thank Search and Rescue, RK Heliski, EHS and all those who helped out on the scene,” said Columbia Valley RCMP.
“Our thoughts are with the family and friends affected by this tragic event.”
The snowmobiler’s death comes as Avalanche Canada warns of heightened risk with rising temperatures across the province.
