The City of Cranbrook has finished its downtown parking study, which will help guide future decisions around parking in the community.

The report focuses on short-term, medium-term and long-term actions the city can pursue.

This includes the possibility of a digital payment system.

Probably one of the easiest things to implement would be a digital payment system and app while integrating free parking for seniors and variable pricing for different programs,” said community planner Conor Britton.

Other short-term actions include increasing the metre rate.

Proposed off-street parking prices based on what other communities are doing would be $0.75 per hour, $5 per day and $50 per month.

On-street fees could look like $0.25  for 15 minutes, $0.50 for 30 minutes and $1 for 60 minutes.

Long-term actions could include parking lot, road and infrastructure maintenance or redevelopment and exploring the feasibility of a parade.

City staff will bring forward a report to council to seek direction for implementation.
