Fernie council approves funds for new plow

Fernie city council has approved the purchase of a single-axle front plow truck for the price of $447,167.

Public worse manager Stacia Selinger says they were originally going to retrofit a plow blade onto an existing truck but the price got too high.

“We received a quote to retrofit an existing truck we had and that quote was for $190,000,” she said.

“We prepared a request for proposal for the retrofit to try and save costs but the result came back well over what we had expected.”

The lowest cost the city received was $293,000.

The city budgeted $550,000 in 2024 so the purchase of this vehicle is under budget.

City staff say the truck would be built and delivered 220 days after the tender is awarded.
