Cranbrook is partnering with the RDEK and other communities to apply for provincial emergency preparedness funds.

“It’s organized through the regional districts’ emergency management program,” said Cranbrook fire and emergency services director Scott Driver.

“They are looking for Cranbrook to support a joint application with multiple communities in the region to bolster our emergency social support services.”

Fernie, Invermere and Canal Flats are also partnering for the grant application.

If successful each community could get $40,000.

Cranbrook plans to use that money to purchase additional stockpiles of cots, blankets, pillows, and hygiene items, as well as a 20-foot sea can for additional storage space.

They also plan to use the money for training and emergency boarding supplies for pet rescue organizations and training for Emergency Support Services volunteers.
