Elkford Mayor Steve Fairbairn says their work with BC Builds was a key highlight in 2024.
“It was a really neat year,” Fairbairn said.
“We were successful in BC Builds to get a project into that program and had a successful bidder on that project.
He says this will be huge for introducing more housing.
“In two to three years that will make a big difference in housing and rentals in Elkford so that’s very exciting.”
He says it’s also been encouraging to see how Elkford’s council continues to be strong.
“The council remains united in our strategic plans and moving forward towards all of those,” he added.
However, he says the district is still feeling the crunch when it comes to staffing.
“Finding people in all departments continues to be an issue,” he said.
“There are just not enough people around to do it.’
And that relates to their housing struggles.
“Perhaps a bigger challenge than that is when you hire folks where do they find a place to live? Housing and rental accommodations are a bigger challenge and it’s one that in a big way is out of the hands of local government.”
