Cranbrook RCMP are seeking a suspect believed to be involved in a hit-and-run near Mount Baker Secondary School.
Police officials say they received a report about the incident at 9:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
“A resident’s vehicle that was parked in front of the school was struck by a dark blue vehicle with an unknown licence plate,” said Cranbrook RCMP officials.
“The suspect vehicle then fled towards the 7-11 on 2nd Avenue North.”
Police say surveillance footage shows a smaller single-cab pickup truck travelling east on Baker Street, crossing the road and striking a parked vehicle with considerable force.
A witness reported hearing a vehicle with a high-pitched exhaust, heard a crashing noise, then saw a dark-coloured vehicle flee the scene.
“Cranbrook RCMP is seeking the assistance of the public in identifying the vehicle involved in the hit and run,” said Cranbrook S/Sgt. Barry Graham.
“It is likely the suspect vehicle will have significant damage.”
The investigation is ongoing and any information can be sent to the Cranbrook RCMP at 250-489-3471 or Crimestoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
