The College of the Rockies (COTR) has welcomed the new Dean of Trades and Technology, Ranjan Bhattacharya,  to its faculty.

Bhattacharya stepped into the role on November 25, replacing Jack Moes, who has retired after almost a decade as Dean.

“There’s so much going on, so much potential. The college is so critical to the community, so it’s a great feeling to be here and support the great work going on,” said Bhattacharya.

COTR officials say Bhattacharya brings a wealth of experience in strategy and leadership into the role, having previously developed innovative credentials, increased program enrolments, established Centres of Excellence, facilitated articulation agreements, and several externally funded applied research initiatives.

“Ranjan’s experience, along with his innovative mindset and dedication to experiential learning, will greatly benefit the College,” Hicks said.

“We’re excited to have him as part of our team and to connect him with our communities in the East Kootenay region.”

Bhattacharya says he’s still getting settled into the position, but he’s eager to get started.

“I really want to take the time to have those conversations, both internally and externally, to ensure we’re moving forward in line with what our industry partners need and what students are looking for while moving the College’s strategic plan forward,” said Bhattacharya.

The College said Bhattacharya’s diverse portfolio includes biological sciences and applied chemistry, engineering technologies, information and communication technologies, and fire protection, offering credentials ranging from micro-credentials to Honours Baccalaureate degrees.

“I’m hoping to bring all of my experience and knowledge into what we can accomplish here at the College of the Rockies,” said Bhattacharya.

“I’m excited to be here working with the college and getting to know the facility and the community at large as well.”
