Fernie Ghostriders forward Taylor Haggerty has been named the KIJHL forward of the week after a four-goal and five-point weekend.

Ghostriders head coach Chad Scharff says Haggerty was easily the best player in their two wins.

“Our captain Tayler Haggerty was our best player on both nights. He brought the intensity and was able to score as well,” he said.

“He’d be the one guy who I would identify as the top guy.”

The team won both of their games, 2-1 against the Creston Valley Thunder Cats and 5-4 to the Kimberley Dynamiters.

Scharff says it’s a good learning experience to be in close games.

“It was an important weekend for us. Kimberley is at the top of our division and I think it was a good challenge for us,” he added.

“They were two close games and we found a way to win both of them so. It’s nice when you’re in tight hockey games and come out on top.”

They are now prepping for back-to-back games against the Golden Rockets this coming weekend.

They’re important games for us. They’re a team that we need to beat and to play them back-to-back nights is kind of like a mini-series,” he said.

“I’m looking forward to the challenge and I like the week that we’ve had so far in preparation for the weekend coming up. I expect big things this weekend.”

The Ghostriders are now 10-4-2-1 on the season for third in the Eddie Mountain Division.
