The Columbia Valley Rockies are still second in the Eddie Mountain Division following a weekend split.
The Rockies beat the Kimberley Dynamiters 4-2 on Friday but followed it up with a 6-4 loss to the Beaver Valley Nitehawks.
Rockies head coach Tayler Sincennes says he was happy with most of their play over the weekend but they let it slip away on Saturday.
“The Kimberley game we played really well. Our structure and execution were really good and our energy started to grow as the game went on. goaltending gave us a chance to win that game and then we got a couple of timely goals,” he said.
“Saturday we were on track for kind of the same thing and had a good 40 minutes. We came out in the third and just kind of opened the door for them for no reason. We were missing assignments, backtracking and poor execution across the board.”
The Rockies will be at home this coming weekend as they welcome the Grand Forks Border Bruins and the Kamloops Storm.
Sincennes is expecting a similar playstyle between the two teams.
We’ve seen Grand Forks once this year and they’re a fast, physical team. They beat us in our building so hopefully we can put on a good show and give our group an opportunity to get them back,” he added.
“Kamloops we haven’t seen much this year but speaking from the past they show up fast, psychical and big. I’m imagining two tough, tight-checking games in the Eddie Mountain Memorial Arena this weekend.”
The Rockies are 11-8 on the season for second in the Eddie Mountain Division just behind the Kimberley Dynamiters.
