Rockies coach impressed with weekend performance

The Columbia Valley Rockies head coach was pleased with the team’s effort in two big wins over Creston and Fernie.

Head coach Tayler Sincennes says it was an improvement on their recent play.

“Both games this weekend were really well executed,” he said.

“It was a step in the right direction for our group, we weren’t doing the little things the right way the last couple of weeks and it cost us some tight checking games against Kimberley and Fernie.”

The Rockies defeated the Creston Valley Thunder Cats 5-1 and followed it up with a close 3-2 win over the Fernie Ghostriders.

“This weekend we came out and executed really well against Creston and kind of dominated them,” he added.

“Saturday night against Fernie was a playoff-style game that got physical and kind of grindy, but we came out on the other side thankfully.”

The whole team showed up and contributed to the wins.

“It came from all of our lines and our depth,” Sincennes added.

“We had scoring from all over our lineup again. Both of our goalies played very well and gave us a chance to win both of those games.”

Sincennes is expecting another tough battle against two good teams as they face the Kimberley Dynamiters and Beaver Valley Nitehawks this coming weekend.

“I think it will kind of be a more playoff-style game, tight checking and physical,” he said.

“We have to show up, we can’t have anybody not there, we need everybody rowing the boat. That’s my expectation for both those games as both teams are very good.”

The Rockies are now 10-7 on the season for second place in the Eddie Mountain Division.
