Ghostriders look to keep momentum up as they climb division standings

Despite a slow start to the season, the Fernie Ghostriders are heating up and making their way up the division standings.

After a 3-2 win over the Creston Valley Thunder Cats and a 4-2 win over the Columbia Valley Rockies, the Ghostriders are now tied for second in the Eddie Mountain Division with a 7-2-1-1 record.

Despite the two wins, head coach Chad Scharff wasn’t the happiest with their performance.

“Anytime you win two games, everyone is always happy for the result but at the end of the day, I think there are things we need to be better at,” he said.

Scharff says they will need to be better to have a shot at winning the cup this year.

“We talked after the game about how we were good enough this weekend but we weren’t great,” he said.

“That’s part of learning how to win and we’re doing that but at the end of the day as we move forward if we want to compete against the top teams we need to be better than we were this weekend.”

He says they need to keep getting points when facing in-division opponents.

They’ll have the chance to do just that this coming weekend as they face the Golden Rockets and the Columbia Valley Rockies.

“The home game here against Golden is going to be a big game here for us. They’re a team we feel we should have success against but you never know in this league. We have to be prepared and do all the right things this weekend,” he said.

“Columbia Valley will be chomping at the bit to get redemption on us, so we’ll have to be ready for Saturday as well. For us, it’s one day at a time so we don’t get too ahead of ourselves. We have a big week of practice and go into Friday ready to go.”
