Dynamiters coach expecting tough battle against Beaver Valley

The Kimberley Dynamiters are expecting a tough game on Saturday when the Beaver Valley Nitehawks come to town.

Head coach Derek Stuart says as good as the Nitehawks are they have to focus on Friday’s match against the Spokane Braves.

“I’m not too sure what Spokane will bring. I know Beaver Valley will be very good again, hard to play against and really well coached,” he said.

“We have to make sure the guys aren’t looking past the Friday night game and make sure we’re ready to go for Spokane.”

The Nitros are coming off a split weekend where they lost to the Princeton posse but beat the Merritt Centennials.

Stuart says he wasn’t pleased with the team’s effort early in both games.

“Our first periods were bad,” he said.

“I liked how we battled in the second and third periods in Merritt but if we did that in the first period of both games we would probably be coming home with four points.”

He says some of the players are a little banged up heading into this weekend but there were no key injuries.

“Nothing of significance, but it was a physical week so we definitely have some bumps and bruises, but we’ll see who can go and who can’t.”

Puck drop is at 7 p.m. on both nights.
