Retiring MLA says residents can vote in other ridings despite boundary change

Doug Clovechok, retiring MLA for Columbia River-Revelstoke says voters can cast their ballots for the upcoming provincial election in any riding as long as they show their voter card and ID.

This comes as some boundary changes between his riding and Kootenay-Rockies (formerly Kootenay East) as the north, east and southern outskirts of Cranbrook were moved into Columbia River-Revelstoke

Clovechok says plenty of residents have raised their concerns with the arrival of their voter information packets.

“Dozens of people have called us, but we’re not only hearing it in the office, we’re also hearing it in the street from people who don’t know where to vote,” said Clovechok.

Clovechok says the boundary changes have caused some confusion for residents.

“When people got their notices on their election cards, it says they have to vote in Kimberley. That’s just not the case,” said Clovechok.

“You can vote anywhere in British Columbia. For example, if you wanted to vote at the Heritage Inn in Cranbrook, you just have to have your voter card with you and a piece of ID and they will run off a ballot for you.”

Early voting opportunities will run from Oct. 10 to 13 and again on Oct. 15 and 16. General voting day in the 2024 provincial election is set for Saturday, Oct. 19.
