Dynamiters 2-0 in second week of KIJHL regular season

The Kimberley Dynamiters had a successful weekend defeating both their rival Fernie Ghostriders and the 100 Mile House Wranglers.

The Nitros’ match against the Ghostriders was a close 5-4 shootout win followed by a 5-3 win against the Wranglers.

Head Coach Derek Stuart liked how the team played, but they need to cut back on their penalties.

“I thought structure-wise we were a little bit better then the first weekend and our penalty kill was really good,” he said.

“I didn’t like the amount of penalties we took or were called against us, but it’s early in the season for everyone and those are the kind of things you have to battle through.”

He thought Nick Hughes stood out again and they also had a good first game from goalie Kyan Gray.

“I thought Nick Hughes had an outstanding game on Sunday. He was the best player on the ice for me,” he added.

“Our goaltender Kyan Gray played pretty solid and he debuted on Sunday.”

The KIJHL awarded Hughes with the second star of the week for putting up two goals and five assists over the two games.

The Dynamiters will be on the road next to take on the Princeton Posse and the Merritt Centennials.
