The BC Greens have nominated Fernie resident Kerri Wall to represent the party in Kootenay-Rockies in the upcoming provincial election.
Wall ran in the 2020 provincial election and she decided the throw her hat in the ring once again.
“I think women need to be in the political arena and we need to have a candidate who stands on the left of the political spectrum,” said Wall.
Wall says she wants to focus her campaign on several key issues.
“I’m concerned about housing, affordability, health care, child care and the climate,” said Wall.
“These are all things I’ve been working on for years in my career with Interior Health. They’re also things I’ve heard from voters in our riding.”
Wall feels the Green Party has a decent shot at winning the Kootenay-Rockies riding in this election.
“I think it’s going to be a close race this time because we have a four-way race. There is a ton of Green support, but I think people are still somewhat nervous to support the Greens. There is no reason to be scared this time,” said Wall.
“We haven’t had a female MLA in our riding since 2001, which is over 20 years. I think it’s time.”
Voting day in the 2024 provincial election is set for Oct. 19.
