Retired teacher Andrea Dunlop will run for the BC NDP in Columbia River-Revelstoke in the 2024 provincial election.
Dunlop, a lifelong Windermere resident, says her political focus will be rural British Columbians.
“Everything I see is always through the lens of rural British Columbia. We are a minority – we are only about 13 per cent of the B.C. population, so we need to have strong voices,” said Dunlop.
“I was a high school teacher for 30 years and in that time, I was an advocate for our students, families, our school system and our school. I just retired and I think now is an amazing opportunity to be an advocate for all of our communities and families in the riding.”
Dunlop says she joined the NDP because she believes their plans for the province will lead to significant improvements.
“Everyone knows the cost of housing, cost of living, health care and climate change are issues we need to address and I believe that can only be done when you have a plan,” said Dunlop.
“The NDP has a plan and they are moving forward. They acknowledge there are problems and concerns and they come forward with solutions.”
If elected, Dunlop says she would do her best to be a strong voice for the riding.
“The people of Columbia River-Revelstoke can trust me to always be on their side. I will always make decisions and vote in a way that ensures they can live in their communities and get the services they need,” said Dunlop.
“I will always be an advocate for small-town B.C. and Columbia River Revelstoke in particular.”
Voting day in the 2024 provincial election is set for Oct. 19.
