Four people have been charged with drug trafficking after an investigation that began last year.
Police officials said the Cranbrook RCMP Enhanced Response Unit launched an undercover investigation in the spring of 2023.
Investigators were targeting the sale of illicit drugs in Cranbrook, resulting in ‘Trafficking in a Controlled Substance’ charges against four people:
- Gary Edward Ruff, 59 – six counts
- Kenneth Donald Leverington, 49 – four counts
- Thomas Andre Fleury, 37 – three counts
- Awet Petros Abraha, 36 – three counts
“Individuals who choose to earn their living in the drug trade are making a profit by selling substances known to cause harm and death,” said Sergeant Stu Hert, Operations NCO for the Cranbrook RCMP.
“Cranbrook RCMP members will continue to work to identify these individuals and present them to the courts to be held accountable for their actions”
Police officials said the Cranbrook detachment is continuing their work to address drug trafficking in the community, and residents can help out by reporting suspicious activity to the local RCMP at 250-489-3471.
