Cranbrook adopts recreation and culture fee increases

Cranbrook council has approved a one-year price hike for recreation fees as the city continues a department service review.

The review will include a fees and charges analysis which will provide recommendations on how the city should manage its recreation fees.

However, it won’t be finished by the Sept. 1 deadline to have fees updated.

In the meantime, the city is bringing their fees closer to other communities.

“We are looking at recovering the cost of services and getting closer to the other communities around us,” said recreation and culture director Trevor Thors.

“We are looking at a general 10 per cent across-the-board increase and 15 per cent on single admissions such as public swimming.”

Swim fees will increase from $3.65 to $4.41 for a child, $4.75 to $5.74 for youth and seniors and $6.35 to $7.62 for adults.

All credit card transactions for recreation services will be assessed a 2.4 per cent convenience fee, which the city said is consistent with their other departments.

The new prices will be in effect from Sept. 1, 2024 to Aug. 31, 2025.
