Cranbrook wake surfers bring home gold and silver from BC Summer Games

A wake surfer from Cranbrook has come home with gold and silver medals from the 2024 BC Summer Games.

Dagen Duczek earned the top spot in Boys Wakesurf and helped the Kootenay Team reach the silver medal in towed water sports.

“We had a team of six. There were other zones with bigger teams, but we ended up getting second place in team points overall,” said Duczek.

“We all competed in other events and we ended up getting the second-most points overall.”

Duczek has been wake surfing for over half a decade, and this was his second time at the BC Summer Games.

“I started out at around six years old, just getting towed behind a fishing boat. Ever since then, we went through different water sports,” said Duczek.

“We started out wakeboarding, but that was a little painful so we switched over to surfing. That’s kind of stuck and I’ve been doing it for around seven years now.”

The Kootenay water sports team also had another competitor from Cranbrook, Erica Godsave, who earned the silver medal in Girl’s Slalom.
