The City of Kimberley has given residents a new direct line of communication with city hall and the Mayor, as it launches its ‘Ask the Mayor’ on its Engage Kimberley website.
“The big benefit to residents and taxpayers is getting direct answers to questions they might have when the question comes up,” said Mayor Don McCormick.
“It can be a challenge sometimes to navigate the bureaucracy and the point of Engage Kimberley is to cut through that and get people answers.”
This new line of communication will lift some pressure off the city as well.
“The city takes a lot of calls with questions that may be unclear who the right person to ask, so it can bounce around city hall,” said McCormick
“This helps our city staff handle questions that they’re experts at, and lets me respond to other questions that may not be as urgent.”
The new program is meant to give residents a direct line to get answers to questions regarding city operations, validate or dispel rumours, and gain insight into Council decision-making.
“Communication is everything. If there isn’t a good line of communication open, people tend to draw their own conclusions and many times that may be the most negative or the worst case scenario,” said McCormick.
“This is an opportunity to make sure we have a really good line of communication open between city hall, residents and taxpayers.”
