The Fernie Aquatic Centre’s summer hours start next week after reduced hours through the month of June.
The pool will be open daily with the leisure pool open from 11:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. and full amenities open from 1-6 p.m.
The city decided to reduce the public swimming overs in June due to staffing shortages.
“There’s a priority for a lot of our staff who are casual students to exam prep and there is also a week-long celebration of graduation,” said parks and recreation manager Jacquie Hill.
She said it was too hard to find adequate replacement staff.
“It can be very difficult sometimes in a pinch to try to find someone to cover that shift because lifeguard and teaching swim lessons is a specialized certification. We can’t just pick up anybody.”
City staff said there will also be no maintenance closure this summer so the pool will remain open through the whole season.
The news hours are in effect on July 2. Full hours and booking times can be found below.
