The City of Cranbrook is not looking to change its sign bylaw just yet.
The city received a request from a business owner to review the current bylaw and allow portable digital copy signage and increase the maximum allowed size from 3.5m2 to 5.0m2.
Engineering and development director Mike Matejka said the portable signage could work for certain situations but it would need detailed regulation.
“Staff believe that even though this type of use is a valid type of use it would be a significant use of staff time and resources because we want to make sure we don’t set a precedent to amend it based on one use,” he said.
He added that they will end up reviewing the sign bylaw but there are a number of higher-priority projects staff have to get through first.
