City of Cranbrook moving forward with accessibility projects

The City of Cranbrook has received a $25,000 grant from the Social Planning and Research Council of British Columbia to address accessibility needs in the community.

The city will be redesigning curbsides in key areas to include proper letdowns.

“This will allow those with mobility devices such as scooters and wheelchairs and families with strollers, to move around the community more easily, safely and effectively,” said City of Cranbrook Human Resources partner Amanda Gnucci.

Planning still needs to be done so work won’t start this year.

“This project is expected to be undertaken in 2025 during the construction season and we’ll provide updates as the project processes,” she added.
The city is also exploring other accessibility options.
They will be looking at introducing user-friendly rental wheelchairs and reviewing options for replacing the mechanized stair lift from the main floor to council chambers at city hall.
