Proposed seniors development in Cranbrook passes third reading

A proposed seniors housing development at 2000 8th Street North in Cranbrook is one step closer to becoming a reality.

Council gave third reading to the proposal that would see a senior-specific 49-unit housing development.

Councillor Wes Graham was pleased to see it moving forward.

“I’m excited to see this proceeding,” he said.

“It’s in a good location along a corridor and it’s targeting affordability for seniors. I can’t wait to see this break ground.”

While it will be senior-specific, Councillor Lynette Wray said it will benefit others looking for housing.

“If seniors are looking to downsize or be done with yard work, it’s a great fit for them and as they move out of their homes, those homes open up and are available to families or other folks who are looking for a house with a yard. It’s a double win when we see these developments come to fruition.”

It should be up for adoption at the June 24 council meeting.
