Kimberley City Council has voted in favour of a development permit for phase one of the Lois Park Subdivision.

The initial part of this project will include several single-home lots.

“Phase one will have fewer than 20 lots and we’re expecting those will be fairly popular because of the advance interest that has been shown in the property,” said Mayor Don McCormick.

The new subdivision will be located in Kimberley’s townsite area, and include several lots that will be developed in phases.

It will have the possibility of a mix of single homes and multi-unit buildings.

McCormick said housing is sorely needed in Kimberley.

“It’s been very discouraging listening to people say that want to move to Kimberley, but they can’t find a place to live,” said McCormick.

“With the development going on here, we’ll be in a place where anybody who wants to live in Kimberley will be able to find a place to live.”

The developer still has some assessments to get through before construction can begin.

“We’re at the subdivision stage right now, so they still have some gates to go through,” said McCormick.

“If everything goes according to plan, I think they hope shovels will go in the ground in a matter of months. Hopefully within this year.”
