12th Avenue South reconstruction in Cranbrook starting within two weeks

Reconstruction work along 12th Avenue South in Cranbrook will be getting underway with the contractor starting soon.

“They are going to be on-site either early next week or first thing Monday morning the week after,” said roads and infrastructure manager Curtis Mummery.

“They’re getting geared up to be on-site and notices to residents will be coming in the coming days.

The project includes a new watermain, new services to each property line, new curbs, gutters and sidewalks and updated drainage infrastructure.

Paving work is expected to get underway shortly as well.

The city is focusing efforts on sections of 6th Street North West, Industrial Road 1 and sections of Victoria Avenue from Highway 3 to 2nd Street North which were hit hard by winter weather.

“Certainly, everybody recognizes the winter we had and the toll it took on our roads,” said Mayor Wayne Price.

“It was a bit of an unusual year.”

City staff said construction costs are impacting the amount of resurfacing work they can do each year.
