BC Wildfire Service crews are on the scene of a grass fire between the Kootenay River and Wardner-Fort Steele Road.
The fire is classified as out of control and has grown to at least 2.1 hectares.
No evacuation alerts or orders are in place and there is no threat to properties at this time.
The exact cause of the fire hasn’t been revealed but the BC Wildfire Service has deemed it human-made.
Nick Chapman with the BC Wildfire Service explains how residents can help reduce fire starts.
“There is good advice from the FireSmart people on how to protect your own property, but beyond that just responsible use in the outdoors such as not leaving your campfires unattended and putting them out properly,” he said.
“Another common one is motor vehicles like quads and stuff, the hot exhaust can start fires in the backcountry.”
The blaze was discovered yesterday, May 9.
