Elk Valley RCMP said you should be cautious about pushy door-to-door salespeople prowling the community.
This comes as several reports of people going door-to-door in Fernie using aggressive sales tactics on Wednesday, with some residents believing the sales to be fraudulent.
Police officials said you should not open your door for strangers with or without credentials, adding that you should should contact the charity or organization directly if you have questions.
You can also check the Better Business Bureau to check the organization’s validity before you donate or buy anything.
“Normally, charities and most door-to-door businesses call into the local RCMP or your local district/city office to advise they are in the area in case of calls from concerned homeowners to ensure their legitimacy,” said RCMP officials.
Any concerns can be called into the Elk Valley RCMP at 250-425-6233 in Sparwood or 250-4253-4404 in Fernie.
