Fernie beginning process of replacing fire hall

The pre-planning process for Fernie’s Fire Hall Replacement is getting underway.

City officials said the former fire hall on 3rd Avenue was decommissioned because of issues with the facility’s structure and function as well as the inability to meet current requirements for a fire hall.

“Fernie Fire and Emergency Services have been operating out of a temporary location next to the City’s Operations Facility, while the planning and construction of a suitable new facility can be completed,” said city staff.

The city will use this phase of the project to find an appropriate site for the new fire hall and identify any partnership opportunities.

“We’ve issued a Request for Expression of Interest to explore any opportunities for facility co-use partnerships or potential private sites for consideration,” said Fernie officials.

A Community Working Group will be formed to bring together community members to guide direction throughout the Fire Hall Replacement Project.
