McPhee and Theatre Road Upgrade delays pinned on part delivery issues

A delay in the delivery of electrical components is causing a delay in the installation of traffic lights at the intersection of Cranbrook’s McPhee and Theatre Road.

City officials said the traffic control computer and the signal light poles were ordered in May, before the project was tendered to make sure they would be delivered ahead of time.

However, that plan did not quite work out.

“These parts were originally scheduled to arrive October 21 and are scheduled to be delivered by the end of November, at which time the contractor will be able to complete the rest of the project,” explained city officials. “Many of the city’s projects are being affected by supply chain delays, same as projects locally and all over the world.”

The final phase of the project is set to include the installation of new lights at the intersection and along the pathway, signal poles and lights, traffic controller and cabinet, electrical hardware and making sure the traffic lights work properly.

City officials said most of the project, including deep utility installation, paving, gutters and the pathway, was completed through the summer and into the fall.
