Police investigating theft and vandalism of Kimberley Cenotaph

Police are investigating after a number of plaques were stolen and one was damaged at Kimberley’s Veteran Memorial Park.

Police officials said the plaques were taken some time between Tuesday and Thursday.

City council member Kyle Dalum said he’s disappointed by the act of vandalism.

“They really have deep meaning and intent. One of the plaques was a limited run of only two, and that can’t be replaced. They’re pretty valuable in sentiment to the entire community,” said Dalum. “It’s been a challenge to remain calm after being exposed to such disgrace.”

Police are unsure of why someone would want to go after the memorials.

“Police are looking for any information people may have regarding the missing plaques and/or any suspicious occurrences people may remember happening near or around the Kimberley cenotaph during these dates.,” said Kimberley RCMP officials.

Anyone with information can contact the Kimberley RCMP at 250-427-4811.
