Columbia Valley Search and Rescue (SAR) and local RCMP are looking in the Bugaboo Creek and Upper Bugaboo Falls area for an overdue American kayaker.
According to police, 46-year-old Peter Jolles, from Virginia, was last seen in the Bugaboo Creek area on Sunday, June 19th, when he set out on a solo kayaking trip.
When he did not appear at his designated pick-up location as expected, he was reported as missing to the RCMP.
SAR crews and police searched the area on Sunday night. Officials said they found the man’s green inflatable kayak, but Jolles was still missing.
“Columbia Valley RCMP is asking pedestrians to avoid the search area, namely the banks around the Lower Bugaboo Falls area and Bugaboo Creek, to allow search teams to work freely,” said Sgt. Darren Kakuno, Columbia Valley RCMP Detachment Commander.
The search resumed Monday morning.
Police said Jolles was last seen wearing a black dry suit, grey life jacket and white helmet. He is described as standing 6’5, weighing 180 lbs, with a fit physique and shoulder-length wavy hair.
Anyone with details on Jolles’ whereabouts is asked to contact Columbia Valley RCMP at 1-250-342-9292 and cite file 2022-1463.
