The Regional District of East Kootenay (RDEK) is looking for residents interested in becoming election officials as the district prepares for the general local election.
“We have had a number of our long-time Election Officials retire or move away and, as a result, we are hoping to recruit a number of new Election Officials in advance of the fall election,” explains RDEK Chief Election Officer Tina Hlushak.
RDEK officials said election officials will direct voters, provide information on the voting process, register new voters and supervise ballot boxes and voting booths.
“While previous election experience is a bonus,
it is certainly not required,” said Hlushak. “We provide all the necessary training and are looking for people who have strong communication skills, the ability to work long hours on the voting days and who are interested in being part of the election process.”
People approved to become election officials will have to take part in a mandatory training session in Cranbrook on Oct. 3rd.
General local election voting day will be on Saturday, Oct. 15th with advance voting on Oct. 5th and 13th.
Voters within the RDEK will cast their ballots for electoral area directors for all six parts of the region.
Applications for election official positions will be accepted until June 20th, with a form found through the link below.
