Individuals Rescued From Elk River Log Jam

The City of Fernie is advising the public to use extreme caution and obey all signs on the Elk River due to an impassable log jam.

“There is a large log jam between Hosmer and Fernie that is not safe to pass,” said the City of Fernie. “Emergency crews were required to rescue stranded individuals from the log jam over the weekend.”

It’s unclear how many people were rescued from the recent incident or the exact circumstances of the rescue, but the event has prompted a strong warning from the municipality.

“Please adhere to the signage in the area and do not attempt to travel this section of the river.”

Although residents can still float along other sections of the Elk River, the City of Fernie is alerting everyone to the extreme danger the log jam poses.
