David Kim has formally resigned as Cranbrook’s Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) after leaving the City in July 2019 for medical leave.
The City of Cranbrook said Kim resigned to “start a new chapter of his career” and being closer to family and friends.
As per the Cranbrook’s 2018 Annual Report, Kim was paid $276,032 in annual remuneration while with the City. The City’s 2019 Annual Report will be available on June 22nd.

It’s unclear if any further compensation was paid to Kim in 2020 during his extended medical leave, having not been in at City Hall in a working capacity since summer 2019.
The City of Cranbrook said the CAO is the sole contract position in City that reports directly to the Mayor and City Council.
In a statement on Kim’s resignation, Mayor Lee Pratt said Kim brought more than 20 years of leadership to the position when he joined the City in March 2016.
“David was an innovative thinker in improving our infrastructure and simplifying our development approval process. His engineering background was a huge asset to our organization,” said Pratt in a statement.

“During his time with the municipality, David was instrumental in strengthening the customer service focus of the organization, while fostering local economic growth, creating solutions around infrastructure and improving City operations to enhance the quality of life of those who live, invest and do business here,” added the City of Cranbrook.
Kim previously worked with the City of Calgary in different capacities before working for Cranbrook, as he managed the Urban Development Department and was the Vice President of Land Development with R.J. Burnside & Associates Limited for several years.
“Mayor Pratt, Council and the City of Cranbrook thank David for his valuable contributions to the City and wish him the very best in his future plans,” said the City of Cranbrook.
Ron Fraser will continue to serve as Cranbrook’s Interim Chief Administrative Officer, while the City said they will begin the recruitment process for a new CAO in the coming weeks.
