BC Hydro has connected power services in Cranbrook and Moyie as part of the Moyie Distribution Project along Highway 3, improving service to area residents.
Starting the project in April, BC Hydro planned to have it completed by the end of 2019 but are ahead of schedule.
The project saw the construction of a four-kilometre extension of the power distribution line running south from Cranbrook. Before the project, the line had ended in Lumberton while Moyie customers were being fed power from another direction.
“Now that customers in Moyie are connected to Cranbrook, we are able to serve them from either the Moyie Substation or from Steeples Substation in Cranbrook which will improve reliability when there’s an outage affecting our customers in Moyie,” said Sally MacDonald, BC Hydro Public Affairs Officer.

The extended power line was officially brought into service in July, vastly ahead of their December 2019 timeline.
“The project budget was $520,000,” added MacDonald. “We’re still getting the final numbers for the cost of the project but we’re expecting it to be less than that budget, which is another good news factor about the project.”
BC Hydro thanked the residents of Moyie and motorists along Highway 3 that were patient during construction and helped maintain safety for both the workers and the public.
