The Fernie Chamber of Commerce is making progress on opening the first coworking space in the Fernie as they now seek an ideal property in the community.
Completing a feasibility study for the project in 2017, the Fernie Chamber of Commerce said they learned that the community had a strong demand for a facility where professionals, entrepreneurs, and freelancers could collaborate and complete their desired work.
Coworking spaces aren’t uncommon in the Kootenays as Cranbrook and Invermere both have similar spaces, while Nelson and Revelstoke can also boast about having a professionally designed and open facility.
“Driven by membership, the space will provide a mixture of private offices, meeting rooms, common area workspaces, and a lounge space with members being able to purchase single day passes or full memberships,” said the Fernie Chamber of Commerce. “We are seeing proposals from interested owners of suitably zoned commercial property in Fernie, who would be interested in leasing their space to the Fernie Chamber of Commerce for a coworking space.”
Needing to meet specific criteria, the Chamber of Commerce is seeking a space that is ideally at least 2,500 square feet, within walking distance of Fernie’s downtown, has suitable commercial zoning for general office use, and has the ability to work with the Chamber of Commerce on leasehold improvements of the space.
Written proposals are being accepted until August 31, 2019, which can be emailed to Brad Parsell, Executive Director of the Fernie Chamber of Commerce at [email protected].
