The East Kootenay Xtreme is on the coast this weekend for Provincials as the Senior Women’s Fastball team looks to claim their first championship.
In their inaugural season last year, the Xtreme finished with a bronze medal at the Senior B Ladies Provincials.
Hoping to do one better this season, the Xtreme open action on Friday for the start of the provincial tournament, playing back-to-back games in Richmond.
The East Kootenay Xtreme is fully a women’s fastball team of varying ages from 19 to 54, featuring regional players from Cranbrook, Kimberley, and Fernie.
“We’re trying to make a comeback with it, of course, we’ve got a pretty good core coming back next year,” Jacqui Brown told Summit 107, a catcher with the EK Xtreme that said some players are returning to ladies fastball after more than 20 to 25 years away from the game. “We’ve got some – a little bit of few older ladies like my age.”
Looking to build off their success and grow the program, the Senior B Ladies Provincials will mark the end of the season for the Xtreme upon the conclusion of the weekend.
