The Regional District of East Kootenay is hosting a series of events next month to help residents make their properties more resilient to wildfires.
That includes community debris bin events, education sessions and wood chipping events.
RDEK communications coordinator Lindsay McMahon says it’s also important that residents have an evacuation plan ready.
“People will want to make sure that they have a plan for their family if they need to leave their home,” she said.
“Where they are going to go, what they’re going to do and they want to be able to build a kit of important stuff to take with them.”
A full list of upcoming FireSmart events can be found on the RDEK’s website.
