Byram sets career high in points

Despite the Buffalo Sabres not making the playoffs, Cranbrook’s Bowen Byram set a career high in points.

Byram tallied seven goals and 38 points in 82 games this season.

His previous career best was in the 2023/24 season where he put up 29 points.

During an end of season press conference, Byram said it was disappointing that they couldn’t make the playoffs but he is happy being with the Sabres.

“I look at our team and do think that we should be playing in a playoff series but that’s on us as players. All and all I enjoyed my year,” he said.

“We have a great group of guys in the dressing room and we all get along. We’re all trying to figure this thing out together.”

His defensive play improved this season as well. He went from a -1 plus/minus last season to a +11.

“I took strides in different areas of my game this year. I think defensively for a chunk of the season I was playing the best defensive hockey I’ve played in the NHL,” he added.

“I need to continue to improve on both sides of the puck to be the player I want to be and I think I’m capable of that.”

His contract is up on July 1st, but he is a restricted free agent so it’s likely that he will sign a new contract with the Sabres unless a trade takes place.
