Cranbrook city council has adopted a subdivision and development servicing bylaw amendment that will raise application fees.
The current fees for OCP or zoning amendments range between $1,200 and $1,600, while council has elected to go with a tier 2 increase that would hike fees up by 100 per cent.
The main reason for the increase is to improve the profit margins for development applications.
City staff say they recover $200 to $600, but that is significantly less than the amount of staff time and resources required to process the applications,
A large portion of the cost is paying for ads in the local newspaper which the city is legislated to do.
The average cost for a single ad is $540 and sometimes the city is required to take out two ads.
City staff say the fee increase will help reduce the impact on taxpayers.
