Cranbrook RCMP is praising one of its officers for going above and beyond the call of duty by helping an elderly woman in distress with tech and financial issues.
Cranbrook RCMP Community Engagement Coordinator Melody Munro says the detachment received a call to check in on a 77-year-old woman living independently after healthcare workers could not reach her.
“Cst. Caitlyn MacWhirter responded and found the woman safe at home – though understandably flustered due to technical difficulties with her TV, internet, and phone services,” said Munro.
MacWhirter not only performed a wellness check on the woman, she also provided further tech support.
“With the woman’s permission, Cst. MacWhirter used her cell phone to call the service provider, discovering that the woman was behind on her bill,” said Munro.
“Cst. MacWhirter didn’t stop there and began working tirelessly with the service provider to ensure the outstanding balance was paid and found a way to significantly reduce her monthly charges.”
Munro says MacWhirter’s advocacy helped the woman save almost $2,000 annually.
“This is just one example of how our incredible officers go above and beyond the call of duty to help those in need,” said Munro.
“We’re so grateful for Cst. MacWhirter’s compassion and dedication to making a difference! Thank you, Cst. MacWhirter, for your exemplary service and care!”
