The Cranbrook Bucks will need their top players to be on their game to go far in this year’s playoffs and captain Bryce Sookro will lead the charge.

Sookro was named the Bucks MVP for the season for his stellar defensive play and 56 points in 53 games.

“He’s emerged into arguably the best defenceman in our league and an MVP for our team,” head coach Ryan Donald said.

“He does a lot and plays a ton of minutes.”

Sookro has spent his entire BCHL career with the Bucks after splitting the 21-22 season with the Nelson Leafs of the KIJHL and the bucks.

“Bryce has been a terrific member of our organization for a number of years now,” he said.

“He came to us when he was 18 and kind of cut his teeth going in and out of the lineup but got a deeper role.”

Earlier this season, Sookro beat the franchise record for most games as a Buck.

The record is now 146 games.

The Bucks get set to face the Smoke Eaters in Trail for Game 1 of the BCHL Playoffs tonight.
