The City of Cranbrook will get $500,000 from the BC Active Transportation Infrastructure Grant to pay for a new multi-use pathway along McPhee Road.

City officials say the project will add a new curb, gutter, asphalt, and signage alongside the multi-use pathway to be raised and separated from the road between Theatre Road to Industrial Road F.

“This project was identified in the City’s Active Transportation plan as a critical connection into our industrial area and Moir Park,” says Mayor Wayne Price.

“On behalf of the City of Cranbrook and Council, I want to thank the Province of BC and the Ministry of Transportation and Transit for this important funding and for understanding the importance of creating and sustaining safe cycling and walking paths for our community.”

The city will also use the opportunity to resurface this portion of McPhee Road, as it has reached the end of its life.

Work on the new multi-use pathway will take place through the summer.

“City staff will be working over the next month to prepare for the public bidding process for construction upgrades, which is anticipated to be completed late this summer,” said city officials.
