A proposed food hub on Cranbrook Street North will be up for adoption at a future meeting after passing third reading.
The food hub will be a multi-purpose facility for food processing, manufacturing and distribution, as well as training and education.
The proposal almost didn’t pass second reading with a close 3-2 vote.
Councilors were reluctant with the location being on the main highway corridor and thought other locations may be better suited.
Councillor Norma Blissett says it feels similar to the discussion around a childcare facility on a portion of Gyro Park last year.

“This situation kind of reminds me of our issue with the day care in that there are a lot of really good locations we could all think of that it should be, but they’re not available,” she said.
“When we made the decision on the daycare location it was trying to make the best of a situation we had. Many members of the public could suggest alternatives but they weren’t available for us to use because we don’t own the land.”
The proposal passed third reading in a unanimous vote.
