Bird Canada and the City of Cranbrook are partnering once again to run the BC Electric Kick Scooter Pilot Program for a second year, following the massive success of the program last year.

City officials say the program will offer alternative transportation options for residents and visitors from April 1 to November.

“Up to 100 e-scooters will once again be available across popular areas of the community such as Downtown Cranbrook and Rotary Park,” said the City.

“Available 24 hours per day, 7 days per week, the e-scooters are accessible as part of the ongoing Kick Scooter Pilot Program, governed by the BC Electric Kick Scooter Pilot Regulation.”

This year’s scooter program will include more safety features, with a speed limit of 24 km/h, scooters only being available to users over 16 years old, and riders will be required to take a selfie in the Bird app to activate the e-scooter.

“All riders must wear a helmet when operating an e-Scooter, and must not ride e-Scooters on the sidewalk. Helmets are provided with each e-Scooter and are frequently cleaned by the Bird Canada team, although riders may also use their own helmets,” said the City.

“All riders must abide by the City’s local bylaws and provincial regulations.”

Bird Canada is a Canadian-owned company that offers residents and visitors a new, sustainable way to get around the community.

Any concerns or issues can be reported to [email protected] or the ‘community’ page on the Bird app.
